Curiosity has always been my driving force.
I’m passionate about exploring, creating, designing and building things. As a kid, I studied how everything worked before I took it apart and (hopefully) put it back together again. To my father’s dismay, my first bicycle was in pieces within hours.
I started playing guitar when I was 12 years old as a way to attract girls, which seemed to be a good enough reason at the time. But it didn't take long for me to become totally enamored with learning to actually play the damn instrument. My dreams of becoming a rock star faded a long time ago, but I’m still hoping that my playing will improve.
In high school and college, I joined a few different bands so I needed to buy equipment on a very limited budget. Most of the gear was second hand and not of the best quality. One of my first purchases was a used Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face, but it only worked on particular days that rarely aligned with when the band was getting together. I started tinkering with it, replacing transistors, capacitors and re-soldering connections to coax it along. In short order, I was hooked. The mission to fix that pedal turned from a hobby to an obsession and the best way to characterize it today, it’s a quest.
I earned degrees in Electrical Engineering and Music from Rutgers University and went on to a great career as a loudspeaker designer at Harman International. I later built my own company in the Home Automation field, which was eventually acquired by a division of Guitar Center in 2022. Now, I've decided to focus more on experimenting with electronics and actually making music, which has been the motivating factor behind everything.
As I continue to poke around, explore, create, design and build musical electronics in my spare time, the Fuzz Face is still on my pile of projects that I’m determined to get to. Maybe someday…
